We have recently left the year of the Snake 2025 and based on western approaches, we are led to believe that the new year is in full swing already. We might feel as though we should be full of motivation and ready to burst into life, with vigor and ambition.
If you are anything like me, or most people I know, then this is not the case. In fact, not only is it not true for many, but we are feeling the very opposite. And is it any wonder...
January is still the depths of winter and we are not quite ready to bloom with spring. We can sense it, almost taste the lighter days just around the corner, but it is not here now.
With short dark days still looming and cold snaps outside, it can be hard to get outside or bring into fruition all those plans or hopes we have for the new year. As I write this I am noting the grey sky outside and the words of my partner, "it will be raining and grey all week!"
According to the chinese calendar the 2026 new year begins on the 17th of February. This marks a time of transition and change, with spring blooming and the leftovers of the previous year being cleared.

2025 was the year of the snake which called us to shed old parts of us that have become outdated, heavy or dysfunctional, creating space for new energy. It could have been a time of inner reflection, which may have brought discomfort or challenge as we were asked to become more inwardly aware. The steady wisdom of the snake has been preparing us...
As we enter the year of The Fire Horse 2026, what is useful for us to consider?
This is a rare event occurring only once in a sixty year cycle, and represents the natural horse energy of independence and freedom with the transformative power of fire. After a year of snake introspection, it brings more forward momentum and the power to break away from the past and stuck patterns. It is a time to move into the future with change and new opportunities.
Be careful not to burn out. The desire to move, create and change is essential in life, but it can also be very intense, particularly for those of us who are introverted and sensitive or have a history of chronic illness. Listen to the call to follow the horse, whilst tempering balance and plenty of rest time too. In fact, you might want to increase your self-care practices to prepare for demands on your system.

Something for you to consider; Is there residue leftover from last year that is bothering you and where can you let go? If something keeps coming up in your life, then this could be your sign that you need to look at it more closely. It might be a situation you keep finding yourself in, a repetitive argument, a chronic symptom, or a certain emotion or trigger.
If we keep doing the same thing, we will often get the same result. What small new step can you take this week that will help clear the old layers left over?
2026 is a time to break free from old stagnant energy and make real lasting change. Where have you been avoiding change? Sometimes the medicine is the opposite...making a different choice or tackling the things we usually shy away from. That said, simply becoming aware and having the courage to look, is the most important step.
The Year of the Fire Horse lasts until February 2027, so you have some time to adjust and get in flow with this new energy and perspective. If we can find patience and tune in to our inner wisdom before we surge ahead, the year can bring wonderful new life. Think of it like pulling back on your reigns to collect yourself, before moving forwards with intention.
When we resist the urge to rush, and take discipline in patience, we can embrace transformation from a place of integrity and alignment, ultimately making 2026 a time to bring authentic hopes and dreams into reality.
In summary, if we rush and charge ahead, we risk building our year on a foundation of sand. If we slow down and continue a touch of the snake wisdom, we can move forwards as a truer version of ourselves and fulfil more of our values, goals and missions for 2026 and beyond.
I am offering a Chinese New Year workshop online to support this very process. You are most welcome to join me and you can learn more on my website: www.soulspaceunlimited.com
I will be taking my own medicine and spending more time in mother nature this year and riding the wave of new energy! During this time, I will continue to be available for online sessions and pop-up Qigong events.
